In Pictures: Ilkley Lido’s Doggy Swim Day
Yesterday I joined the dogs and their humans braving the 9 degree temperatures for an outdoor swim at Ilkley Lido. Amongst a mass of floating tennis balls and water toys, lots of excited hounds ran, jumped, swam and generally lived their best lives at Ilkley’s beautiful lido.
Characters big and small got involved and I was there with the camera to capture the action! Here are some of my favourite images from the day.
Ilkley Lido is a famous outdoor swimming pool located in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, England. It is one of the few remaining open-air pools in the UK and a popular spot during the summer months. Ilkley Lido opened on May 25, 1935, to coincide with King George V's Silver Jubilee. It was designed by Archibald Skinner, the Borough Surveyor at the time. His vision was to create a space for both recreational swimming and enjoyment of the natural surroundings.
The lido is renowned for its unique, crescent-shaped pool and scenic setting, with views of Ilkley Moor in the background. It's a Grade II listed building, recognized for its architectural and historic significance. Alongside the outdoor pool, there is also an indoor pool for year-round swimming.
