Why A Northern Heart?
In 2015 my husband suggested we get a dog to add more fun into our every day. At first I was reluctant, thinking we didn’t really have the time to devote to a puppy. I finally relented, and that same year we brought home our first dog. Lennon was a handful at first, but quickly stole our hearts and got us out and about exploring the outdoors more than ever. We included him in everything, and he came with us on all of our adventures.
During Covid, when Lennon was five years old, I noticed him acting a little differently. We took him to the vet, and after initial tests he was referred to a specialist where we got the worst possible news; he had a brain tumour and only had a few months to live. Luckily, I had been documenting his life and our adventures through my photography, and this gave me huge comfort.
Though he had a relatively short life, I fully understood the love and loss that comes with loving a dog, and their rightful place as a member of the family.
I decided I wanted to provide dog photography for others, to help others have at least one classic portrait of their beloved pet that they could look at and love in their home, both now and in years to come. I knew I wanted to do this a bit differently to make the images extra special, so I settled on a fine art style of imagery, and decided to make the light and landscapes of the north - the places I love - the backdrop.
My dog photography has expanded to equestrian images now too, but at the heart of it all is my bond with that very special dog who taught me to get out and enjoy life when I needed it the most. He was the best thing we could have done at that time, and I’ll be forever grateful that it brought me here, helping other dog lovers to appreciate and immortalise their own best friends through beautiful photography.
About Me
Hi, I’m Faye. I have been photographing humans professionally for over twelve years over at FKB Photography, including for some of our region’s top universities and creative agencies. Before that, I was that friend who always had a camera on them! They say a picture can paint a thousand words and couldn’t agree more - I love that photographs often explain what people might find difficult to say. Outside of work I live next to the moors in West Yorkshire with my husband. I love my dogs, adventures, and seeing new places. When I’m not snapping, I also love
Reading or a good TV drama
A hot curry!
Woodland walks
Guinness
Travelling
A good belly laugh
